Hand and wrist injuries
Injuries to the hand and wrist account for a large number of musculoskeletal injuries. Many of these injuries can be managed non-operatively and they heal leaving little or no functional problems. Some of the injuries are more complex and surgery may be necessary.
Common injuries are as follows:
Wrist fractures
Wrist ligament injuries:
- Scapholunate ligament tear
- Non-specific ligament injury
Hand and finger fractures:
- Metacarpal (hand) fractures
- Phalangeal (finger) fractures
- Mallet finger
Hand and finger ligament injuries:
- Skier's thumb
- Finger collateral ligament injury
- Volar plate injury
- Dislocated finger joint
